Best Replacement for Lands End's Discontinued Ragg Nov 23, 2010
Lands End had these cotton/wool Ragg socks that were long, big, warm, but not itchy. I have warmer socks for wearing outdoors in actual cold & snow conditions, but these were the ones I liked to wear around the house when it gets a bit cold. Lands End discontinued these socks and my two pair finally wore out at the heels. (Note: they currently have added Ragg socks but they have a stripe on them and they're not the same socks, they're more of a crew sock).
Here's what I tested out as repacements in order of preference:
Wig-Wam Expedition (Cotton/Wool)
Wig-Wam El-Pine (Wool)
Fox River Raggler (Cotton/Wool)
Fox River Ragg Socks (Wool)
The wool Fox River Ragg and Wig-Wam El-Pine are good but they are itchy indoors. The Fox River cotton/wool Raggler is great but it is a tight sock and I was looking for loose, like a slipper.
The Wig-Wam Expedition in XL is big, warm, but not too hot.
They are all great socks but the Expedition won the test for me. It's still not long like the old Lands End Ragg sock, but it's the closest I've found. Note that for all the socks and especially the wool, they need about 10 wash/dry cycles to get soft.
Anyway, this is all obviously highly subjective but hopefully it is decent input whether or not you agree with the conclusion.

Good wool sock Jan 21, 2011
By Stephanie Garcia
This sock is a little lighter than I expected, but it did not shrink as much in the wash, so it gets my thumbs up! Nice and warm too.

Disappointment Galore Feb 05, 2012
By Stacey Day
The sizing is all lies!! I ordered a medium pair- supposedly able to fit women's size 6-10. I got the socks and it is wayyyyy too big! I'm a size 9, and this was colossal! The knit was also shockingly scratchy for having such a high synthetic fiber content- it has all the scratchiness and discomfort of poor-quality 100% wool! The seam at the bottom of the sock along the toe is poorly sewn up, overly long and bulky; it protrudes into your foot when wearing boots and creates a whole other layer of discomfort along the balls of your feet, since the seam wraps around almost the the underside of one's foot, and actually underneath your foot when the socks are sized for giants. So bummed to have spent so much money that, as a broke college student, I really did not have on such disappointing socks that I now am stuck trying to bum off on some unsuspecting victim.

Real good old fashioned Ragg wool sock! wears well! Jan 12, 2012
By Marjorie W. Dunaway
Well, Marjorie's husband here: I asked for 2 pr of these socks for Christmas and Santa delivered! I've been wearing them a lot since and love them - we've had some -30 F weather and these have been working well. I really like the thick yarn, harder finish, feel and bulk of these socks compared to all the new soft fluffy "smart" products that just haven't done for me as they compress too easily. Its getting harder and harder to find these REAL thick winter boot socks so glad Santa came thru. Only gave 4 stars 'cause I haven't had them long enough to know about durability but I hope they hold up well. If these Wigwams hold up well I'll be back for more before winter is over. Edit 4-2-13. I have worn these socks HARD since receiving them and they are holding up well over a year later. Wear then in hip boots, rubber knee boots, several pairs of heavy winter boots, even my nicer shoes on really cold days. I upped the rating to 5 stars as I still haven't worn them out yet I wear them instead of slippers a lot as well as working in cold outdoors. They breath well and dry quickly. I may order a couple more pair - very pleased with the durability. They don't feel slimy after a long day like some fleece socks do.

Warm and comfy Jun 20, 2013
By Colorado Consumer
I bought these socks to keep my feet warm at night on cold nights. They are easy to pull on, have kept their shape and best of all are warm and comfortable. This is not the most strenuous use for the socks but I looked high and low for sleeping socks and found none better.
